The Society for Corporate Governance celebrates its 75th anniversary

We salute those who have come before us and look forward to empowering governance professionals to create long-term value for stakeholders over the next 75 years.

The Society for Corporate Governance celebrates its 75th anniversary this week with a closing Nasdaq bell ringing today by Society President and CEO Darla Stuckey; Company President, Jeffrey Pochowicz, Senior Director – Corporate Governance and Assistant Secretary General, McDonald’s Corporation; and other former presidents. On November 6, 1946, a group of business leaders came together to form the American Society of Corporate Secretaries, which has grown into a growing, strong and diverse national association for corporate governance professionals, now known as the name of Society for Corporate Governance.

“As we celebrate three quarters of a century, corporate governance has become mainstream and the role of the Secretary General has been elevated. The Company has been there throughout this trip. From the post-war boom to Sarbanes-Oxley, Say on Pay and sustainability, the Society has helped companies meet the changing expectations of shareholders, regulators and lawmakers, ”observed Stuckey.

“It is an honor to be Chairman of the Board of Directors in the Company’s 75th year. We are a strong community that works together to advance governance issues, educate our members and solve problems. We salute those before us and look forward to empowering governance professionals to create long-term value for stakeholders over the next 75 years, ”added President Pochowicz.

This marks the start of a year-long celebration marking the Company’s 75-year legacy of education, networking and advocacy for practitioners in the corporate governance community. “To mark this anniversary, we will be celebrating our accomplishments and recognizing our members, partners and service providers throughout the year,” commented Stuckey. A short series of launch videos with “Membership Value” has been released. Additional videos will highlight chapters, advocacy, governance history, service providers, etc. The celebration will continue with an anniversary reception at its Essentials for Corporate Governance conference January 25-27, 2022 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and will end with a gala on June 22, 2022 at the national conference in Chicago, Illinois. . .
