Tristar’s concern for seafarers recognized by the maritime industry

The ongoing “Safety at Sea” initiatives of the Tristar Group aimed at protecting the health and well-being of seafarers were recognized by the maritime industry in the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa during of the Seatrade Maritime Awards on December 13th. This comes after the Marine Logistics division. of the company organized its 3rd annual “Safety at Sea” conference on December 8th.

Group CEO Eugene Mayne received the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) award from The Mission to Seafarers regional director for the Middle East and South Asia, Andy Bowerman, who was by coincidentally one of the keynote speakers at the December 8 event where he spoke of sailors as victims of conditions.

“Tristar will continue to maintain a leadership position in addressing issues related to the plight of seafarers, as it is a global issue that requires all stakeholders to come together to improve health and well-being. from our fellow sailors, ”Mayne explained just after the 3rd conference.

The company has been consistent in its concern for workers at sea. At the 2nd edition held virtually on December 9, 2020, Mayne called for wider recognition of seafarers as key workers. It echoed the Neptune Declaration by this time even before the company became a signatory. Signed by more than 850 companies and organizations, the declaration recognizes the shared responsibility of stakeholders to prioritize the health and well-being of seafarers and to ensure a resilient supply chain.

At the inaugural conference held on November 10, 2019, Mayne explained, “As a key player in the maritime industry, it is our duty to play a leading role in ensuring that physical and mental health seafarers be treated with the utmost importance. We intend to create a strong platform to discuss and implement an ecosystem that will allow seafarers to seek professional advice or guidance. Wed.”

Tristar currently operates a 24/7 helpline which it launched in February 2020 for its crew members through the UK-based Sailors Society. This was one of the concrete actions taken after the inaugural conference. Other initiatives have consisted of a series of in-person and virtual psychological first aid workshops and engagements with everyone on board during the height of the pandemic.

The Seatrade Maritime Awards were organized in association with Lloyd’s List, which is one of the world’s oldest continuous-circulation journals, having provided weekly information on sailing in London from 1734.
